BT engineers are totally confused!
What with the NSA and Snowden and all, we are aware that emails, mobile phone calls and internet useage can easily be tracked by GCHQ, any time they wish to do so.
As we are currently involved in battles to stop frackers and gas drillers from destroying our village in North Shropshire, we might be forgiven for expecting extra surveillance activity from the state and its agents to be going on.
In that regard, a week ago, our landline phone went dead. We duly reported it to BT and were told to wait three days for a response. After three days, the BT engineer duly tested the line. The strange thing being that twenty minutes before he tested the phone line it recovered and was working again. It appeared to be OK to them. In fact it was working nicely as per usual, and I'd made a couple of calls. But no more than ten minutes later the line cut again.
It's now been off for six days, apart from that thirty minutes.
BT now say that they can't solve the line's problems without making a visit here. They won't talk to us on the mobile but use email to arrange everything. I wonder how this is going to resolve.
I remember when I was a UKIP activist in 2001 having no less than four BT engineers visiting the house on one occasion simultaneously. I had given up worrying about bugs at that time, and I was fascinated to see the lengths to which the state supervisory system would go. All our mail was being stopped at the Post Office, a local postman told us, breaking his Official Secrets Act oath. It was 100% intervention.
Then I was single and had only myself to worry about. This time I have a wife and children. I don't feel so comfortable about the prospect of our house being bugged. Let's see what kind of engineer turns up assuming he will do so eventually.

Back in 2006 I was doing something "they" would have wanted to monitor (not because it was illegal or dangerous - just because they are paranoid). An engineer turned up to "fix" my internet connection. I was friendly and polite - as you would be - yet this guy was the rudest, most sullen representative of his trade and could barely manage a grunt.
I do not know whether he was "fixing anything" but it stands to reasons that the stooges who do this kind of job are ideologically opposed to people like us - and will behave that way.
Offer yours a cuppa - check the response.
I'm also a bit confused about the discrepancy between what we BELIEVE "they" can do and the seeming obsolescence of what they ACTUALLY do. It's still about phone wires and stopping mail and nothing more sophisticated than that?
That's not to underplay anything - or your concerns - thanks for your efforts for the cause.
Why are you bulling up the efforts of MPs to hold a 'safe' face-saving investigation into child abuse, and yet belittling the incredible bravery of Kevin Annett and his common law court the ITCCS? I see the pattern in your comments, Mr Hurley.
